The money is not as good and the opportunities are slim down here at home. Sometime I wonder if it was the "right" move.

Now that I have started my own family, I am reminded of exactly why I did come back after reading your story. I remember those things as a child. Playing all day long, doing things that were totally dangerous. I hope my children enjoy the same as they come of age. They are lessons from which I still learn. Walking railroad tracks, skating on frozen ponds, bathing in a cold mountain creek--on and on. And all done within the bosom of my family, and it never occurring to any of us that life should be done any differently. And we could not ensure the same childhood for our own children. We did the best we could, to provide our kids with a taste of our own childhood, my sisters and I, and the taste they got has served them well. Alas, their own children--our grandchildren--know nearly nothing of it.
So enjoyed your writing. Your memories, like my own, are wonderful, but sad that they're memories of what can no longer be. I wonder what my granddaughter will look back on so fondly, and so instructively, from her childhood.
